Does It Really Matter What You Eat? God Thinks So…

written by Beverly March 19, 2012

I wanted to lay the foundation for my future posts about food… from the Bible of course.

So, does it really matter what you eat? I mean, as long as we use up all the calories we eat each day we shouldn’t gain weight, right? It seems logical to think that, but we need to remember that the different types of food we eat affect our body in different ways. In fact some foods available today our body sees as being harmful and when we eat them our bodies become inflamed. One of my goals for this blog is to show you some harmful foods and healthy replacements. Just because food is manufactured under the FDA’s laws does not mean that it is “helpful” to consume.

“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be enslaved by anything. 1 Cor 6:12

We may think that, since God is sovereign I can eat whatever I want and God will keep me healthy. But did you know that your body does not belong to you?

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. 1Cor. 6:19-20

And therefore God instructs us to not destroy our bodies:

Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple. 1 Cor. 3:16-17

So, I do believe that God cares about how we take care of our bodies, and therefore, what we eat.

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Cor. 10:31

Do you agree or disagree? Why?

Amen! I agree 100%. Jordan Rubin’s “The Makers Diet” gave me a new lease on life and stopped my downward spiral. I’m a biblical health coach and passionate about eating healthy and as organic as possible. I’m constantly educating myself. I have people at church wanting me to do some type of nutrition class. The elders won’t let me. They think it’s a cult because we are living under grace and not under the law. Well if you look at the Levitical diet, it is proven by science. God didn’t have science back then. He knew exactly what he created for food. I agree we won’t go to hell if we eat pork, shell fish, etc, but we will suffer the consequences.
I’m so sad that the church does not recognize this abuse of our bodies. Our bodies are the temple of the Lord and it’s biblical to keep them clean. Processed food is a lie of satan.
Looking forward to seeing more of what you will have to post. God Bless

Thanks for your testimony Gail! I’m am constantly learning as well, so please feel free to correct me if I write something that sounds questionable to you.
I know the feeling of talking to people about food choices and seeing in their faces that they really don’t care. Like I said before, I believe God gives us the responsibility to keep our bodies in shape to do His work on earth. In Matthew Jesus commands us to go and make disciples of all nations. He gave us the responsibility of telling others about Him, so why should we believe that it’s not our responsibility to take care of our bodies?
I would encourage you to pray and seek God’s Will on starting a nutrition class, perhaps somewhere other than your church. You never know where it might lead you from there.
Thanks again!
